Another wonderful show this year! The members reception was delightful as were comments from this year's judge, Sandi Tax. The show will remain on display at the Edisto Island Museum from June 5th—June 30th.
We were honored to have an acclaimed writer, Michel Stone, as our guest speaker for our May presentation.
Michel is recognized as a prominent writer nationally and has published more than a dozen stories and essays in various journals and magazines. She is a 2011 recipient of the South Carolina Fiction Project Award awarded by the SC Arts Commission, and her work has appeared numerous times in the Raleigh News & Observer's Emerging Southern Writers series.
Her two best-selling novels, The Iguana Tree, published in 2005, and Border Child, published this year, are both popular choices for university classes and community reads and both books have been optioned for film by a movie producer in New York. Recently Michel's novel Border Child was the lead title on a list put out by the BBC of 10 books they recommend.
Quote from Karen Carter of the Edisto Book Store: "What a pleasure to have Michel Smoak Stone back home to the SC Lowcountry Monday evening to speak to the Edisto Art Guild about her new novel, 'Border Child' - no mind could wander as she spoke about her experience in Honduras with a mother in a small village kindly asking her to rescue one of her eight children - or, recently on her US book tour hearing incredible stories from immigrants undaunted by risks for a different life. Can many of us imagine the recollections of our ancestors as immigrants to this promising world."
A delightful evening of songs and stories with Dan Brailsford and his presentation on the American Folk Revival.
The Edisto Players presented Till Beth Do Us Part. As always, it was outstanding! What a talented bunch of people we have in Edisto and the Art Guild.
February 2017 Poetry Alive! out of Asheville, NC gave a tremendous performance-- as did all of the volunteers from the Art Guild!
